Minor Field Studies

Minor Field Studies (MFS) is a Sida-funded program with the aim of giving Swedish students the opportunity to gain knowledge about Sida's partner countries and development issues.

This is made possible by a travel scholarship of SEK 27,000 per student for a field study of at least 8 weeks (56 days on site). The scholarship is an additional scholarship for other CSN funds. The field study should serve as material collection for degree work for a bachelor's, master's or master's degree.

One criteria is that you are a Swedish citizen or have a permanent residence permit (PUT) in Sweden. EU citizens' permanent residence permit (PUR) is not equated with a permanent residence permit (PUT) and does not justify grant funding. If you come from the rest of the Nordic countries and are not a Swedish citizen, you should have been registered in Sweden for at least one year at the time of the decision to award scholarships.

Note that as of 2018, people with dual citizenship in Sweden and another country are allowed to conduct field studies via MFS in the other country.
