Zoom

Via Zoom, you can participate in teaching and events remotely or arrange your own meetings. As a student at the University of Gothenburg, you need to activate a GU-Zoom account; you should not use the free Zoom account.

Zoom – Digital meetings and collaborations

Zoom is used for occasions when you can participate in your classes online. In addition to online classes, you can also organise your own video meetings and collaborate with your classmates if you are located remotely. There is a chat function, polls, the ability to share screens, and a function to divide the meeting into small groups. You can record your meeting as a video file on your computer.

Get started with Zoom

You have access to a GU-Zoom account. It is important that you use this account, so that you are correctly identified if you participate in teaching sessions via Zoom. Using a GU-Zoom account also gives you more options if you host your own meeting, than if you use Zoom's free account.

If you have created a free account instead of activating your GU-Zoom account, you'll find instructions on what to do on the FAQ on this page.

Download and log in to Zoom

  1. Install the Zoom app on your computer/tablet/mobile phone via http://zoom.us/download.
  2. Start Zoom and select Sign In (do not select Sign Up).
  3. Select the option SSO, short for Single Sign On, which means that you want to use your existing GU account (your student account).
  4. When domain is requested, enter gu-se (so that it says
    gu-se.zoom.us) and select Continue.
  5. You are now redirected to a web page where you log in with your GU student account (gus•••••) and associated password.
  6. You will then be asked if you want to return to the Zoom app. Answer yes/allow or similar (looks a little different on different devices). You are now logged in to Zoom with your student account.

Tips for good meetings in Zoom

  • Turn the camera on to create a good connection with the other participants. You can, if your device allows it, use a virtual background if you want to block out your surroundings.
  • Add a profile picture that is visible when you do not have the camera turned on. Use a picture that represents yourself.
  • Turn off the microphone when not in use.
  • Consider sitting in a quiet environment with no distracting noise or background.

Security on Zoom

In Zoom, there are features that you can choose to use to enhance the security of your meetings.
