First- and second-cycle qualifications

You can apply for first- and second-cycle qualifications online or using a paper form.

Check that all of the courses that you want to include in your degree certificate have been registered in Ladok. Contact your department if any courses are missing.

This page provides information about:

Documents to be attached to your application if required

  • Register extract/certificate of courses taken at other higher education institutions (only applies when using a paper form).
  • Certificates for previous studies that are not registered in Ladok.
  • Copy of Degree of Bachelor or corresponding to verify eligibility for a second-cycle qualification (only applies if the degree is not registered in Ladok).
  • Decision from the University of Gothenburg to transfer credit for studies abroad and also copies of supporting information (only applies if the degree is not registered in Ladok).
  • Certificate (personbevis) confirming change of name and/or Swedish national identity number, in the event that the change has not been registered in Ladok.

Online applications

You can apply for your degree certificate online if you have an active student account. Your student account is valid for two semesters after your last activity in Ladok; if you completed your studies before this, you can apply using our paper form.

Please note that the email address to which your degree certificate is sent is the email address registered for you in Ladok. Therefore, check in Ladok that your email is correct and change if necessary.

The personal data (name and personal identity number) shown in Ladok are the personal data that will be written in the degree certificate. If anything is incorrect, postpone with applying and correct what is wrong.

Change contact information

It is a good idea to read through the information before submitting your online application.

'Apply for degree certificate' via Ladok Online

Here you state what qualification you want to apply for, any specialisation (though most qualifications do not have a specialisation) and any main field of study (which all general qualifications have). If you are uncertain what qualification you are looking for, find out more about the rules relating to higher education qualifications on our websites, or contact a student counsellor at your department.

You will also find all of the completed courses you have registered in Ladok; first those at the University of Gothenburg, and second those at other Swedish institutes of higher education. Mark which courses are to be included in your qualification. Contact your department if any course you have taken is not on the list of courses. An application can only be made when everything has been reported.

Some courses are not registered in Ladok. This mainly applies to older courses and older decisions of credit transfers for studies abroad. If you have such qualifications and you want them to be included in your degree certificate, enter this in the box "Message to administrator" and send current certificate to the following address:

University of Gothenburg
Educational Affairs
Supplementary documentation for application
Box 100
SE-405 30 Gothenburg

It is also possible to bring the certificates in question in person by coming to our visitor reception.

Ladok services

'Cases' via Ladok Online

Here you can see whether your application has reached the Office of Degrees. The information you will be able to see is your case number, the date when the application was received and if any administrator is registrered on your application. If no administrator is stated, it means your application is placed in queue and no one has started to work on it yet. An administrator is only registered on your application when you have reached the front of the queue.

Application using a paper form

You must attach your transcript of records or copies of course certificates to your application form, clearly marking what courses are to be included in the qualification.
