Apply for a scholarship for field studies abroad

Published

Would you like to collect material for your thesis or degree project through field studies abroad? The Minor Field Studies (MFS) scholarship programme gives you the opportunity to carry out at least six weeks of fieldwork in a country where Sweden conducts development cooperation.

Minor Field Studies is a scholarship programme funded by Sida, the Swedish International Development Cooperation Agency. Through the programme, you can receive a travel scholarship of SEK 25,000 to conduct field studies and collect material for your thesis or degree project. The fieldwork must be carried out in one of Sida’s partner countries.

The programme is open to students at Bachelor’s and Master’s level. Most – but not all – departments at the University of Gothenburg participate in the programme.

Apply by 15 April to carry out your fieldwork during the autumn.

Changes in the government’s development aid budget have resulted in new conditions for the MFS programme, meaning that the scholarship amount and the required time in the field have changed compared with the previous semester.

On the Minor Field Studies page on the Student Portal, you will find more information about possible host countries, participating departments and the application requirements.
