Exchange studies

Exchange studies allow you to complete part of your study programme at a foreign university. The credits from your exchange can be included in your exam and you will not pay any tuition fee. If you do your exchange studies in Europe, there is often a scholarship included.

Curious to explore Rome, Berlin, Tokyo or Melbourne? Exchange one or two semesters at the University of Gothenburg for a university abroad! The University of Gothenburg has agreements with more than a thousand universities around the world and there are many opportunities available.

An exchange semester lets you experience what it's like to study in a new academic environment, gain new academic perspectives and increase your understanding of other societies and cultures. The credits you earn can most often be transferred to GU and included in your degree. Global opportunities make you prepared for a Global labor market, where international experience is increasingly in demand.

As an exchange student you do not have to pay tuition fees at the host university, with a few exceptions. Some overseas universities may require you to pay a general administrative fee during your exchange period. If you go on exchange within the framework of the Erasmus+ program, you are automatically entitled to an Erasmus scholarship.

Find out what applies to you

The various programmes at the University of Gothenburg have different semesters when an exchange is best suited. You need to coordinate with your international coordinator or study councellor to find out when an exchange will work best for you.  If you are taking freestanding courses at GU and wish to study abroad, you should also get in touch with your study councellor.

Below you will find more information about what applies at your department or faculty.
