How to order a GU card

You order your card in the GU card portal. You need an active student account to be able to make the order. Delivery time is 2-5 working days (during the start of the semester delivery may be longer). You will get a message to your student email address when the card is ready for pick up. You can also see the status in the GU card portal.

Pick up the card

When you have received a message to your student email address, you are welcome to pick up your card at your chosen Servicecenter. You must show a valid ID card or passport when collecting your card. For security reasons, you can only pick up your own GU card. You can collect your card at any time during the semester.

Access and functions on the card

The GU card shows that you are a student at the University of Gothenburg and have access to the university premises, functions, and services. Your GU card is personal and must not be loaned out. Please note that the GU card does not provide student discounts or works as an identification card in the examination hall. At an examination, you need to bring a valid ID such as a passport or driving licence.

Access card

The GU card serves as your access card and gives you access to the premises at the faculty where you are studying. The access function on the card is connected to your course registration in Ladok.

Show your GU card to the card reader to access locked areas. In some cases, you also need to enter the PIN code you chose when you ordered the card. Some faculties have facilities that requires extra access, such as laboratory rooms. Contact your department for more information.

Library card

As a student at the University of Gothenburg, you use your GU card as a library card to borrow books at the library.

In the university's printing system (GUprint), you use your GU card to log in to the printers to print, copy and scan.

Block GU card and change PIN code

If you lose your card, you must immediately block it in the GU card portal so that no one else can use it. After that, you can order a new card in the GU card portal. In the GU card portal, you can also change the PIN code for your card. Contact Servicecenter if you need help blocking your card, ordering a new card, or changing your PIN code.
