Canvas learning management system
The University of Gothenburg's uses the learning management system Canvas. In Canvas you'll find course rooms for your current courses, a digital space where you can find, for example, learning resources, assignments and results.
About Canvas
Canvas is likely the system where you will spend the most time during your studies at the University of Gothenburg. Almost all courses at the University has a course room on Canvas. Depending on how the teacher chooses to conduct a course, the course rooms can be structured and used slightly different. A course room often includes:
- Learning resources, instructions and links.
- Assignments submitted electronically.
- Assessments/results.
- Communication between teacher and student.
- Course evaluations.
Get started with Canvas
Login
- Go to https://canvas.gu.se/
- You log in with your student account, where your username is GUS******.
- If you are a new student, you need to activate your student account.
Find your course room
In most cases, you need to be registered for a course to access the course room in Canvas. Some course content may also be available before registration.
How to find a course room in Canvas:
- If you have been admitted to the course, you will find a link to the course room on My Page here on the Student Portal.
- If you are registered for the course, you will see it in Canvas on the Dashboard page and in the menu under Courses > All Courses.
- Sometimes, you may also access the course room through a link provided by the person responsible for your education.
Tips for using Canvas
- Tell us how and when you want to be notified about events in Canvas. You can do this by clicking on 'Account' in the main menu and select 'Notifications'.
- Download the Canvas Student app from the Apple App Store or Google Play.
- Customize your personal settings by clicking on 'Account' in the main menu in Canvas.

Technical support for issues
If you need help with how to use Canvas, such as login or technical issues, you can submit support questions or search for information in the material available under the help menu in Canvas.
Support questions sent through Canvas are directed to the Servicecenter. You can also contact the Servicecenter through the Student Portal or by visiting a Servicecenter in person.
