Where you can go on exchange studies

To be able to study abroad as an exchange student, the University of Gothenburg must have a partnership agreement with the desired host university. The University of Gothenburg has partnership agreements with a large number of universities across the world, so students usually have a large selection to choose from.

Where you can go depends on your studies

To study abroad as an exchange student, Gothenburg University must have an exchange agreement with the foreign university. What country and university that may be right for you depends on your field of study.

Many of the faculties and departments have exchange agreements that are limited to a specific study field. You can only apply for subject-specific exchange spots if you are studying a programme within that subject area.

There are also GU-wide exchange spots that encompass a variety of subject areas. These are available to most students at the university, but availability may vary between faculties.

Countries available to you

Here's how you can explore the opportunities within your program:

  • It's important to read the information provided by your programme further down on this page.
  • To get an overview of the current partnerships at Gothenburg University, you can use the Mobility Online search function. You can also find information here on the Student Portal.
  • If you are interested in a specific university, you should look at the subject level, course offerings, language of instruction, and academic calendars. If you are interested in a GU-wide exchange spot, it's especially important to ensure that it applies to your faculty.
  • Feel free to contact the responsible academic advisor or international coordinator at your faculty or department to discuss what you should consider when choosing the timing, host university, and courses for your exchange.
