Apply for an internship in Japan autumn 2026

Published

Are you a master’s student at the University of Gothenburg and looking to gain international experience? You now have the opportunity to receive a scholarship to complete an internship at a company or organisation in Japan during the autumn semester of 2026. Apply no later than 20 February 2026.

The University of Gothenburg is part of the Swedish–Japanese network MIRAI, which works to strengthen academic ties between the countries and promote collaboration between academia and industry. The network now offers the opportunity to carry out a traineeship at Swedish-affiliated companies and organisations in Japan.

The University of Gothenburg can nominate three interns.

Valuable experience

The internship gives you work experience in an international context and the chance to develop professional networks. These experiences will be valuable both during your continued studies and in your future career.

Scholarship and conditions

You arrange your own travel and accommodation and can apply for an Erasmus scholarship consisting of:

  • Subsistence allowance: 700 EUR per month
  • Travel grant: 1,735 EUR

The internship starts in August/September 2026 and lasts 20 weeks (approximately 5 months). The application deadline is 20 February 2026.

You can undertake the internship as part of an internship course or as part of a degree project, and receive higher education credits. It is also possible to do a voluntary internship, i.e. outside a course, but in that case you will not receive any credits.

Apply directly to the company or organisation

You can apply for an internship with companies such as Ericsson, IKEA, Elektra and Atlas Copco. For an updated list of participating companies and organisations, see the link to the call for applications under the heading Application.

Please note that you must contact the company or organisation you are interested in yourself.

You must also apply for a visa yourself.

Placement decision

After 20 February, a selection will be made based on predefined criteria, and students will be informed on 31 March whether they have been allocated a placement. You can read more about this in the call for applications, which you can find via the link below.
