Call for application: University of Gothenburg Sustainability Thesis Award - GUSTA 2026

The application for GUSTA 2026 is now open. GUSTA is a project that recognizes and awards scholarships to outstanding theses in sustainability. The award aims to motivate students to engage critically with sustainability issues and seek further knowledge for a sustainable world.

Scholarships for theses in sustainability

Are you writing your thesis on a topic related to sustainable development? We are happy to inform you that application for GUSTA 2026 is now open.

GUSTA is a project that recognizes and awards grants to outstanding theses written on sustainability/sustainable development and related topics. GUSTA addresses all bachelors, magister and masters students in all programmes across the seven faculties within the University of Gothenburg.

The awardees are selected by a committee that is comprised of eight professors from the eight different faculties. The key evaluation criteria is the demonstration of an integration of the different dimensions of sustainability (the environmental, social/cultural and economic aspect) and also a reflection on the Sustainable Development Goals.

Who Can Apply?

All bachelors, magister and masters students at the University of Gothenburg who wrote/are writing thesis in fall 2025 and spring 2026 respectively can apply.

Application

A complete application consists of three components:

  1. A summary of your thesis (1 000 words). The summary will be used in an initial selection process. The form is available here.
  2. A supervisor’s assessment. Ensure that your supervisor has written an assessment (about 500 words) and enclose it to the application. The form is available here.
  3. A PDF file of your thesis. Additionally, provide a link to your thesis.  

Deadline

Complete application must be sent to gusta@gu.se by 31 August 2026.
