Konstnärliga takes shape

Published

In 2029, the Artistic Faculty’s new shared home, Konstnärliga, will be completed next to Götaplatsen. The building will bring the Faculty’s disciplines together under one roof, with new spaces for teaching, research, artistic work, meetings and public events. In 2027, parts of the Faculty will move into the renovated sections of the building.

The Artistic Faculty’s new building, Konstnärliga, is being constructed next to Götaplatsen and will consist of the refurbished building formerly known as Artisten, together with two entirely new sections. Once completed in 2029, the Artistic Faculty’s two departments will be brought together here. Work is currently under way on the foundations and walls of the new sections. During the autumn, the façade will also gradually begin to take shape, making the building increasingly visible in the cityscape.

More opportunities for students

For students, Konstnärliga will above all provide access to a wider range of shared and specialized spaces for education and artistic work. These will include practice rooms, studios, workshops, concert halls, theatres, galleries and black box spaces.

Many of these facilities will be available to several different disciplines and programmes. This will create more opportunities for students from across the Faculty to meet, work together and learn from one another’s perspectives and methods.

Konstnärliga is intended to become an open meeting place in the heart of the city, where students, teachers, researchers and the public can come together through art, culture and the exchange of knowledge.

The first sections will open in 2027

Konstnärliga will not be fully completed until 2029, but parts of the building will come into use earlier. In summer 2027, some of the Faculty’s activities will move into the refurbished section of the former Artisten building.

The first move will primarily involve the Academy of Music and Drama. It will provide new teaching spaces and performance venues, areas for lunch and meetings, as well as new premises for Konstkåren. At the same time, activities that are currently spread across several different addresses will be able to move closer together.

Meanwhile, construction of the two new sections will continue until the planned move-in in 2029.

“We are very much looking forward to providing our students with better conditions for learning and artistic development. The new spaces will create more opportunities to work, experiment and meet across disciplinary boundaries,” says Henric Benesch, Dean of the Artistic Faculty.
