Write your master's thesis on a just climate transition in a thesis cluster

Published

Do you want your master's thesis to make a difference in West Sweden? Meet other students and external partners in the Wexsus thesis cluster. Start with the introduction on 2 November.

How a thesis cluster works

The thesis clusters are run by Wexsus, a collaboration between the University of Gothenburg, Chalmers University of Technology, the University of Borås, the University of Skövde and University West.

The cluster is an extra layer in your thesis work. Master's students from different programmes and universities write about the same challenge. You write your own thesis and choose your own aim, research questions, scope and method.

External partners such as the City of Gothenburg, Region Västra Götaland and the County Administrative Board of Västra Götaland give you advice and open doors. They are not clients or supervisors.

What you get

  • You present your work at the Wexsus Spring Conference in May 2027.
  • You practise understanding complex issues and working across disciplines.
  • You build a network with other students and societal stakeholders.

This year's theme: just climate transition

The transition must not leave people or groups behind. Costs, opportunities and influence must be shared fairly. You can write within four areas, all with a focus on West Sweden:

  • Youth Engagement for Sustainability & Equal Opportunities
  • Sustainable Energy Supply & Reduced Polarisation
  • Biodiversity & Quality of Life and Innovation
  • Climate & Preparedness

Your application starts with an introductory session on 2 November

To apply, you first need to attend Wexsus’ introductory session on 2 November 15:00–18:00, either online or in person. You will learn more about the Thesis Clusters, meet external stakeholders and receive information about the application process.

Applications are open 3–10 November 2026.

Read more about the introductory session, application process and selection on the Wexsus website.
