Become an expert in applied biostatistics!

As a biostatistician, you solve real-world problems by transforming research questions into data that can be analyzed. With a master’s degree in applied biostatistics, you will contribute to the rapid development of Life Science and improve global public health.

The program will begin in the fall of 2025, and applications are already open for international students. Gothenburg is emerging as an important hub for Life Science in Sweden. 

Practical focus

The master’s program is taught in English and is ideal for those with an interest in understanding the theoretical concepts behind statistical methods and how these concepts impact practical data analysis. Students will come from fields such as medicine, health sciences, natural sciences, economics and engineering. The program keeps in sight the applications and includes applying biostatistics in real projects, together with experienced statisticians. This practical focus makes the program unique to Gothenburg.

Wide career opportunities

The program provides strong knowledge of modern biostatistical methods and their applications. You will also learn programming in R, as well as the basics of AI and machine learning. After graduation, you will have many opportunities, such as working as a statistical consultant in research projects or as a researcher in the pharmaceutical industry. The master’s degree also provides a solid foundation for further research in life-science and biostatistical methodology.
