Which scholarship is right for you depends, among other things, on your level of study and the country where you would like to conduct your field studies.
Minor Field Studies
Minor Field Studies (MFS) is a scholarship programme funded by Sida, the Swedish International Development Cooperation Agency. Through MFS, you can receive a travel grant of SEK 25,000 to conduct at least six weeks of field studies in a country where Sweden carries out development cooperation.
You use the field study to collect material for your thesis or degree project. The programme is open to students at bachelor's or master's level.
Most, but not all, departments at the University of Gothenburg participate in the MFS programme. The Minor Field Studies page in the Student Portal provides more information about eligible host countries, participating departments and how to apply.

SASUF+ Fieldwork and Data Collection Stipend
Through the South Africa–Sweden University Forum+ (SASUF+), students at master's level have the opportunity to conduct fieldwork and collect data in South Africa.
You can apply for SEK 30,000. The fieldwork must last for at least ten days and be linked to one of the SASUF+ thematic areas: sustainable health, green transition, migration and urbanisation, and democracy, social justice and indigenous knowledge systems. The mobility period must be completed no later than 1 June 2028.
Priority is given to students affiliated with a research group within SASUF+. You also need a letter from the host institution confirming that you will receive support before and during your stay.
You apply for the scholarship directly through SASUF+. Your application must include, among other things, a project description, timeline, budget, motivation and a letter from your academic supervisor.
