GU card

If you have lost the GU card, you need to block it in the GU card portal

Log in, click "My GU card" and choose "Block card" 

You can change your GU card PIN code in the GU card portal 

Log in and choose "Change PIN". 

You do not need to know your current PIN code to change it. 

When you order and retrieve a GU card, you are responsible for following the rules that apply to the card. If you break the rules or misuse your card, you may lose your rights to keep it. 

• The GU card is personal and may not be used by anyone else. As a card holder, you are responsible for your card and for the services connected to it. 
• The card must be kept in a way that prevents unauthorized access. 
• Do not store the PIN code and the card together.
• Do not mark the card to indicate the premises or buildings it grants access to
• If requested by a security guard or other authorized person, you must present your card. 
• You should immediately block a lost card in the GU card portal or in the nearest Servicecenter. 
• The card should be handled with care so that it is not exposed to unnecessary damage. 
• All use of the GU card is logged. The data is handled in accordance with the rules for IT security at the University of Gothenburg and the Data Protection Regulation (EU 2016/679). 
• If you misuse or attempt to misuse the functions on the GU card the university has the right to, for a fixed period or permanently, block one, several or all functions on the card.

You upload a photo when you order the GU card in the GU card portal. The photo needs to follow these requirements:

• Only photos in colour are accepted.
• The photo should look like you.
• You must be facing forwards. The entire face and head should be visible. 
• Both eyes should be fully visible. You should look into the camera.
•  The face should be well lit without sharp shadows. 
• The head should be clearly discernible against the background.
•  The photo should be clear and in focus. 
• You may wear glasses if no reflexes are visible. The glasses may be dark or tinted only if needed for medical reasons. 
• You may only wear headgear for religious reasons. 
• The photo must be unaltered by computer software or filters. 
• The photo may not be larger than 5 MB. Supported file formats are png, jpg and jpeg.

To order the GU card, you need an active student account.

To upload a photo to your GU card, click on the button to choose a picture. You can upload an existing photo from your computer or phone. If you order from a smartphone, you can also choose to take a new photo with your camera. Keep in mind that the photo must not be larger than 5Mb. Accepted formats are jpeg, jpg and png.

If your account is active and you have access to other services but still cannot order your card, please contact Servicecenter.

For security reasons, you can only pick up your own GU card and you have to bring a valid ID, such as a passport or driving licence.

Are you registered on a course?

You need an active course registration in Ladok to have access to the premises at your faculty. Make sure you are registered on your course in Ladok.

Do you have the right access?

As a student, you have access to public spaces and computer rooms at the faculty where you study. Remember that the access at nights and weekends might be different than during office hours. Find out what applies at the faculty where you study.

Have you entered the wrong PIN code?

If the light on the card reader turns green when you hold up your card but turns red once you have entered your PIN code, you have entered the wrong code. Please contact Servicecenter for help or change the PIN code yourself in the GU card portal.

Is your GU card blocked?

If the light on the card reader turns red immediately after you have shown your card, and before you have entered your PIN code, you might not have access to the premises, or your card might be blocked. Your card can get blocked if you have entered the wrong PIN code too many times. Contact Servicecenter for help.

Note that you must hold up your card in front of the card reader first, then enter your PIN once you have removed your card. Otherwise, the card reader might not be able to read your card.

Is your GU card broken?

If none of the reasons above is the problem, the card might be physically damaged. Visit a Servicecenter to check the card. Do not make any holes in the card as it damages the built-in chip.

The GU card can be used as a library card as soon as you pick it up. Contact the library if you have issues borrowing books.

No, all cards are updated automatically. The access function works when you have an active course registration. 

If you have a Swedish personal identification number, we retrieve information about your name from the population register, and you will need to contact the Swedish Tax Agency (Skatteverket) if you wish to make any changes.

If you do not have a Swedish personal identification number, you can visit a Servicecenter to have your name updated in accordance with a valid form of ID, such as a passport or driving licence.
