Inauguration of the new studio for interaction and game design

Published

On Monday, March 9, it was time for the inauguration of the new and renovated studio for students in interaction and game design. In February, the students moved out of their former studio in Kuggen at Lindholmen. Both students, staff, and people from neighboring activities attended the opening.

Head of Unit, Josef Wideström, gave an opening speech and thanked a large number of people who made the move possible – moreover ahead of schedule. He also highlighted the advantages of having the new studio located on Chalmers’ main campus, with access to an unusually large number of well-equipped workshops and opportunities for collaboration with other programs at Chalmers Johanneberg. Josef envisioned several possible synergies, particularly in anticipation of the launch of a new master’s program on the Chalmers' side in 2027.

The speech concluded with a toast to a new era, followed by snacks, mingling, and music. A themed quiz walk on interaction design was also held in the premises, and Josef was impressed that several teams got a perfect score. The tie-breaker was to estimate the weight of a handcrafted penguin. The people present could then walk around and get to know the facilities, and take a look inside many of the neighboring workshops that are part of the Chalmers’ FUSE initiative.

The educational programs that will make the most use of the new studio are the master’s program Interaction Design and Technologies and its successor Human-centered Design and Engineering – where interaction design will continue to be offered as one of the possible specializations – as well as the master’s program Game Design & Technology in the part of the department that belongs to the University of Gothenburg.
