Lectures by this year's Nobel Laureates in Gothenburg

The University of Gothenburg and Chalmers University of Technology are delighted to jointly welcome five of this year’s Nobel Laureates to Gothenburg – among them one of the 2025 Laureates in Physiology or Medicine, Prof. Shimon Sakaguchi.

Shimon Sakaguchi is Distinguished Honorary Professor at the Immunology Frontier Research Center (IFReC), Osaka University, Japan. Prof. Sakaguchi is awarded the 2025 Nobel Prize in Physiology or Medicine, together with Mary E. Brunkow and Fred Ramsdell, “for their discoveries concerning peripheral immune tolerance.”

Prof. Sakaguchi is internationally acclaimed for his pioneering research on regulatory T cells (Tregs). His work has revealed how our immune system keeps itself in check – findings that are reshaping treatment approaches for autoimmune disease, cancer and transplantation medicine.

The Lecture is followed by a Q&A session moderated by Prof. Marianne Quiding‑Järbrink, who will host the visit.

After the lecture, coffee and Swedish Lucia bun is served outside the venue.
