Natrium and Medicinareberget are being prepared to welcome more students

Published

This autumn, more students will have Campus Medicinareberget as their home campus, as the Department of Applied Information Technology leaves Lindholmen and moves into Natrium. In order to meet the demand, a few smaller lecture halls as well as additional study spaces will be arranged at Medicinareberget.

Prior to the decision for the Department of Applied Information Technology to relocate to Natrium, a simulation of the scheduling of teaching at Medicinareberget was carried out, and it was established that with a few minor additions, teaching could fit within the existing facilities. Therefore, ahead of the autumn term, two additional small lecture halls will be set up at Campus Medicinareberget. Furthermore, a minor renovation is planned to create another lecture hall in Natrium, but this will not be completed in time for the autumn term 2026.

More and refreshed study spaces

As part of the development of Natrium, a small number of study spaces will be added on the entrance floor. In addition, some of the existing study spaces in Medicinarelängan will be upgraded through the reuse of furniture from Lindholmen.

The study spaces in Natrium are very popular, but there are also around 1,000 spaces in Medicinarelängan that all students can use. Some of these have been perceived as dull and worn, but we hope that more students will want to use them after the refurbishment, says Marie Strandevall, Undergraduate Teaching Coordinator at the Faculty of Science and Technology.

Additionally, the three lunch rooms in Medicinarelängan will be refurbished with furniture from Lindholmen and repainted.

New location for the Section of Science and Technology

Another change that will be implemented during the spring is that the Section of Science and Technology under the Göta Student Union will move its premises in Natrium, from the group room corridor to the study guidance corridor opposite. The current premises will be merged with the adjacent group room and will serve as a quiet reading room with around 15 places. Both section chairs are positive about this change.

“We believe the move will be very good, and the fact that the Göta Student Union will have its own little corner is something we hope will help strengthen our position in Natrium and create meeting places for our students,” says Samuel Andersson.

Nora Mellqvist Carlén adds:

“We are positive about the move and pleased to have a more dedicated space for our office. Of course, we are also very excited to welcome the ITIT students to the Medicinareberget campus.”

 FAQ

How will students be affected during the construction period?

Most students will not be affected at all, as no major renovations will be carried out in the educational environments. Students completing their master’s thesis and who are present in the research environments in Natrium from floor 3 and upwards will notice that some minor renovations will be taking place in the building during the spring. For questions about how you may be affected, contact your supervisor.

Will there be enough space for all students in the autumn?

The simulation carried out shows that teaching will fit in. Regarding study spaces and the ability to have lunch, the entire Medicinareberget area is available.

As a student at the Faculty of Science and Technology, will all my teaching now take place exclusively in Natrium?

No. Lecture rooms at Campus Medicinareberget are shared with the Sahlgrenska Academy, so teaching takes place in several locations.
