New scholarship for Master’s thesis work in Italy

Published

Starting this year, Master’s students at the Artistic Faculty can apply for the Anna Ahrenberg Italy Scholarship for thesis work in Italy. The application deadline is 1 June 2026.

The Anna Ahrenberg Foundation annually awards a scholarship of SEK 100,000 to Master’s students whose degree project (Master’s thesis) requires an extended stay in Italy. The stay may take place in Rome or in another location in Italy relevant to the research. Previously, the scholarship was only open to architecture students at Chalmers University of Technology, but from this year it is also open to Master’s students at the Artistic Faculty and the Faculty of Humanities at the University of Gothenburg.

Application deadline: 1 June 2026.

The founder of the foundation, Anna Ahrenberg, had a lifelong interest in the history and culture of Italy, reflected both in her personal life and in her work as a patron of the arts. She visited Italy annually from the late 1890s until the mid-1930s. In 1925, Anna Ahrenberg was one of the founders of the Swedish–Italian Society in Gothenburg, and through the society she donated a substantial sum to establish a lectureship in Swedish in Rome and a lectureship in Italian in Gothenburg in 1928. Her initiatives laid the foundation for a cultural exchange between the two countries that continues to this day.
