Wifi - eduroam

Look for eduroam in the list of wireless networks. To connect to eduroam, log in with:

• your username followed by the suffix @gu.se, gus•••••@gu.se (not @student.gu.se)
• the password to your account

Make sure to enter these details correctly, do not forget to add @gu.se after your username!

If you do not find eduroam in the list of available networks or lack a valid certificate, you may need to install the certificate for eduroam on your device according to instructions further down this page.

Connect via Chromebook

When you connect to eduroam via Chromebook, you may need to ensure that the network settings are specified as follows:

EAP method: PEAP
Phase 2 authentication: MSCHAPv2
CA certificate: Do not ask
Domain Suffix Match: gu.se

Connect via Android

If you are connecting to eduroam on an Android device, you may need to check that the network settings are set as follows:

EAP method: PEAP
Phase 2 authentication: MSCHAPv2
CA certificate: Do not ask
Domain Suffix Match: gu.se

Connect via the geteduroam app

1. Download the app "geteduroam" from the Google Play Store or Apple App Store to your smartphone or tablet.

2. After installing the app, open it and select "University of Gothenburg" from the list of available universities. If you cannot find the university in the list, press More options and search for University of Gothenburg.

3. Once you have chosen your university, you need to enter your login details. Enter the username to your student account followed by @gu.se (gus•••••@gu.se) and your password.
Be sure to enter these details correctly and do not forget to add @gu.se after your username!

4. Once you have filled in your login details, the app will create a configuration file for your device. You may be asked to accept and install this file on your smartphone/tablet to use the eduroam network. Do so if the question is asked.

5. You should now be able to connect to the eduroam network. Go to your WiFi settings and select "eduroam" from the list of available networks. Your device should automatically connect to the network using the configuration file you installed earlier.

To remove earlier logins on your Android:

1. Open Settings.

2. Choose Wifi.

3. Check the switch is turned to On. 

4. Choose eduroam (in Android 5.0 and 6.0 you first choose More and then Saved networks). 

5. Choose Forget.

You may also need to remove an earlier certificate:  

1. Open Settings. 

2. Choose Security (or Security and place). 

3. Choose Clear credentials. 

4. Accept with OK. 

To remove earlier logins on iPhone or iPad:

1. Open Settings. 

2. Select Wifi and Eduroam.

3. Choose Forget This Network.

4. Choose OK to confirm.

You might also need to remove earlier certificates/profiles: 

1. Open Settings. 

2. Select General.

3. Select Profile further down on the page. 

4. Select Eduroam and choose Delete Profile.

5. Confirm that you want to remove profile. 

To remove earlier logins on Windows 10:

1. Open Network and Internet Settings.

2. Select Wifi and then Manage Known Networks further down on the page.

3. You find known profiles further down on the page. Select Eduroam and then Forget.

Go to the Apple menu and select "System Settings”.

Mac OS Ventura and newer Mac OS
1. Select “Privacy & Security” in the left menu, scroll down and click on “Profiles”.
2. Select and remove all eduroam profiles by clicking the minus sign.
3. Click “Remove”.
4. Verify with username and password if prompted.

Mac OS Big Sur and Monterey
1. Click on “Profiles” in the System Settings window.
2. Select and remove all eduroam profiles (there may be several) by clicking the minus sign.
3. Click “Remove”.
4. Verify with username and password if prompted.

Close the “System Settings” window.

If “Profiles” is missing, there is no old eduroam profile installed.

Your Chromebook saves the network login information when you connect to a network. You may need to remove both eduroam and GUguest. To remove earlier logins follow these steps:

1. Click the bell on the low right.

2. Click on the cogwheel icon to go to Settings.

3. Click on the arrow next to Wifi.

4. Click on the arrow next to each of the networks you want to forget (eduoram and GUguest) .

5. Select Forget.

1. Choose your operative system and follow the instructions.

2. Choose Run to start the installation.

3. Choose Next.

4. Choose OK.

5. Follow the instructions. 

6. Log in with your student account: username followed by @gu.se (gus•••••@gu.se) and your password.

Installers are available for most operating systems such as Windows, Apple, Android and Linux.

1. On your Chrome OS device, verify that WiFi is turned on and that you are within the reach of the university eduroam network.

2. In your web browser, go to https://cat.eduroam.org and click on the blue bar/button to start downloading the installation application.

3. Select Gothenburg University to identify which eduroam configuration you need.

4. The browser detects which device you are using and will navigate to the CAT version (Configuration Assistant Tool) that you need. You will see that Chrome OS was selected.

5. Click on the blue bar/button to download the installation application ("eduroam-chromeos-UoG-GU_eduroam.onc").

6. Open the web browser and go to the following address: 
chrome://net-internals/#chromeos

7. Click on the button "Import ONC-file". Please note that there will be no indication on your display that the file has been imported (it will still say NO FILE CHOOSEN).  

8. Click the WiFi icon in the lower right-hand corner of the Chromebook display.

9. Select eduroam as your network to connect.

10. Choose PEAP as EAP-method. Enter your username in the Identity box and your password in the Password box.

11. You will now connect to the GU eduroam network.
