Purpose
The purpose is to provide better conditions for successful studies, contribute to good student health, strengthen university-wide cohesion between different student groups, create community across educational areas and increase the attractiveness of both the university and the city of Gothenburg.
The Student Fund was founded in the spring of 2023 by the then Vice-Chancellor Eva Wiberg in collaboration with, among others, Carl Bennet AB.
Funds from the Student Fund can be used for:
- Activities that welcome and include international students.
- Activities that develop student traditions.
- Activities that promote health (such as sports tournaments).
- Activities that stimulate students' involvement in community-building activities.
- Aocial gatherings for the promotion of friendship and community.
Initiatives that contribute to increasing the attractiveness of the University of Gothenburg and collaboration with the surrounding community are encouraged.
Eligibility
Students, student associations and unions can apply for funding to implement or develop student social activities.
Funds can also be used for initiatives taken by the university to promote student social life.

Application period: 2 February – 2 March 2026
How to apply: Apply to the University of Gothenburg Student Fund
The following information must be attached to the application:
- Who is applying for funding
- Person responsible for the application, including contact details
- Description of purpose
- Expected target group, including expected number
- Time of the event
- Budget, including the amount applied for
Grants may not pay for alcohol. The contact person is responsible for ensuring that the purpose of the application complies with:
- The Rules regarding the use of the University of Gothenburg's (GU) premises for parties and events
- The Policy for the use of the University of Gothenburg's premises for opinion-forming activities.
All of the University’s governing documents are published on gu.se (only Swedish versions available).
Decision
Applications received are processed by the preparatory committee for the University of Gothenburg Student Fund, which meets twice a year. Decisions on the allocation of funds are made by the Vice-Chancellor in mid-April and at the end of November, and all applicants are subsequently notified.
Applications should be submitted at least three months prior to the planned event. The designated contact person is responsible for submitting any supplementary information and for reporting back after the event has taken place.
If an application is approved, it must be made clear prior to and/or in connection with the event that the funding is provided with support from the University of Gothenburg Student Fund.
A total of 40 applications were granted from the University of Gothenburg’s student fund These received a total of just over 400,000 SEK 2024. The distributed amounts varied between 1,300 and 61,000 SEK.
During 2025, a total of 46 applications were granted from 1,000 to 30,000 SEK.
