Regarding demonstrations and posters on Campus Medicinareberget

Published

There have recently been pro-Palestinian demonstrations and unauthorized posters on Campus Medicinareberget. Therefore, the Faculty of Science and Sahlgrenska Academy want to clarify what applies in our premises, and why it is important that everyone follows the regulations.

“The demonstrations that have taken place have raised concerns and questions from staff and students about what is allowed on campus,” says Göran Hilmersson, Dean of the Faculty of Science. “We fully understand that there is a wish to express opinions and to show commitment in connection with the Israel–Palestine issue. However, while we defend freedom of speech, we also have a responsibility to ensure a good work environment for all.”

It must be possible to carry out education and research in our premises without disruption. Opinions must be expressed with respect for all staff and students, and in accordance with rules and policies relating to issues such as premises and posters.

“We want all our staff and students to have good conditions for their work and studies,” says Jenny Nyström, Dean of Sahlgrenska Academy. “An important part of this is that Campus Medicinareberget is seen to be a safe and secure workplace.”
