Pre-study checklist

All students at the University of Gothenburg receive a student account. You need to activate your student account in order to register for your education, and to get started with the University's study systems.

Please note that international students studying in Gothenburg must visit Servicecenter in person to activate their student account.

For students with protected personal data
When you get a student account, the University will process your personal data. As a government agency, we are subject to the principle of public access to official records, which means that certain information about you may be disclosed upon request.

If you need protected personal data at the University of Gothenburg, please contact a data protection officer via Ladok@gu.se. If you already have full protection through UHR, contact a confidentiality officer for information about your student account, login details, certificates, identity checks during exams, and related matters.

To secure your spot, make sure to register for your education within the registration period. It is only when you are registered that you are officially considered a student and can participate in the education.

Registration is often done via Ladok. Sometimes the department offering the course/programme may complete the registration for you. Your department will inform you about when, where, and how registration takes place. If you have any questions or have missed the registration deadline, contact your department.

At the latest two weeks before the course starts, you should have access to your schedule. Most schedules are available in the University's booking system, TimeEdit. Please note that schedules in TimeEdit may be preliminary and can be changed up to two weeks before the course starts.

For each course, there is a reading list that you should have access to at least eight weeks before the course starts. Some students choose to buy all their course literature, while others borrow it from the library.

All students at the University get an email account and an email address in Microsoft Outlook. Important information, such as when your GU card is ready for pickup, will be sent to this email.

To access your email, you need to enable multifactor authentication (MFA) for your account.

You use the GU card as an access card for your faculty, as a library card at the University Library, and for the university’s printers. Many of the university’s buildings are open during the day, but at other times and for, for example, computer rooms, the GU card is often needed.
