Campus Johanneberg

At Campus Johanneberg, students, researchers, and teachers from the University of Gothenburg and Chalmers University of Technology come together on the same campus. This means you have access to facilities such as libraries and study spaces at both institutions. Many of the teachers, researchers, and doctoral students teach and conduct research at both universities.

The entrances to the EDIT building are open on weekdays from 7:30 - 18:00.

Department of Physics

The entrances are open as follows:

  • Physics Origo: weekdays 7:30 - 17:15
  • Soliden: weekdays 7:30 - 17:00
  • Physics Research Building: weekdays 7:00 - 18:00

Department of Mathematical Sciences

The entrances to all our buildings are open on weekdays from 7:30 -  17:15.

The door to the corridor on the second floor of the MV:L building, were you can find our Study Councellors, is open from 9:00 - 15:00 on weekdays.

Who can you find on this campus?

Students from the Faculty of Science and Engineering from the following departments:

  • The Department of Computer Science and Engineering (CSE)
  • The Department of Physics
  • The Department of Mathematical Sciences

Chalmers University of Technology also conducts education here. The Department of Mathematical Sciences and the Department of Computer Science and Engineering (CSE) are shared between the University of Gothenburg and Chalmers. This means that our teachers, researchers, and PhD students work across both universities – teaching, doing research, and collaborating.

Access

During the day, some facilities at Campus Johanneberg are accessible without a GU card. However, certain areas—such as computer labs and student spaces designated for specific departments—are only accessible to students enrolled in those departments. Some spaces are always locked due to research-related activities.

To gain access to the facilities and spaces relevant to you, and to be able to use the computers on campus, you need to do the following:

  1. Activate your student account
  2. Register for the course(s) you are taking
  3. Obtain a GU card It serves as your access card to the facilities
  4. Activate your CID (Chalmers account)

You can activate your CID at the earliest one week before your course starts. Before doing so, you must have activated your student account and registered for your courses. You may activate your CID before ordering your GU card.

Once your CID is activated, you usually gain access to the buildings within 1–2 hours. However, at the start of the semester, it may take until the following day.

If you’ve completed all the steps above but still cannot access the premises, visit the Chalmers Service Center for assistance.

Lecture Halls / Teaching

Each department at Campus Johanneberg has its main buildings where most teaching and activities take place. However, for many courses, lectures may also be held in other parts of the campus.

Department of Computer Science and Engineering (CSE)

Common lecture halls in the EDIT building include EA, EC, and EE, but teaching also takes place in other locations around campus, such as Hörsalsvägen, Maskinhuset, GD-salen in the Physics Building, and the Chemistry Building.

Department of Physics

Most teaching is conducted in Origo. Labs primarily take place on floor 7 of the Physics Research Building.

Department of Mathematical Sciences

Most teaching is held in the following buildings:

  • MV:L (Mathematical Sciences, Low Building)
  • MV:H (Mathematical Sciences, High Building)
  • MV:F (Mathematical Sciences, Physics Building)

Some of our lecture halls include: Pascal, GD-salen, and Euler.

Study Spaces

There are plenty of study areas throughout the different buildings at Campus Johanneberg where all students are welcome to study. Some spaces are program-specific and accessible only to students enrolled in that department.

Most rooms can be found via Campus Maps by typing “study spaces” in the search bar.

The EDIT building is equipped with wheelchair ramps, elevators to all floors, and accessible restrooms.

Department of Physics

Our buildings Soliden, Origo, and the Physics Research Building are connected. Origo consists of a main building and a north and south wing. From the north wing of Origo, you can access Soliden. From floor 4 in Origo, there is a walkway leading directly to floor 7 of the Physics Research Building. Floor 7 hosts many study areas as well as labs used in courses and programs.

There are elevators at all entrances to the buildings. A wheelchair ramp is available at the entrance to Origo from Kemigården 1.

To reach the FB lecture hall by elevator, take elevator B from floor 4 in the Origo building. Learn more through Campus Maps.

Department of Mathematical Sciences

Our lecture halls, computer labs, and group rooms are named based on the building and floor they are located on. For example, MV:L23 is in the Low Building (MV:L), on the second floor. The buildings are connected by walkways, making it easy to move between them.

All our entrances have wheelchair ramps, and elevators are available between all floors.
