Campus Johanneberg
At Campus Johanneberg, students, researchers and teachers from both the University of Gothenburg and Chalmers University of Technology come together in a shared campus environment. As a student of mathematics, physics or computer science, you have access to libraries, study spaces and other resources at both institutions, and many of the lecturers and researchers you meet are active at both. If you study at the Academy of Music and Drama, your main base is at Eklandagatan 86, but you will also have classes on other parts of the university’s campuses.

Access
During the day, some facilities at Campus Johanneberg are accessible without a GU card. However, certain areas—such as computer labs, practice rooms and student spaces designated for specific departments—are only accessible to students enrolled in those departments. Some areas are always locked and are used only for specific purposes.
Students affiliated with the University of Gothenburg
If you are studying solely at the University of Gothenburg, it is sufficient to have a GU card. The card can be activated no earlier than two weeks before the start of the semester or your course. Before that, you need to have activated your student account and registered for your courses. Follow the first three steps below.
If you have followed all the steps but still do not have access to the facilities, please contact the University of Gothenburg Service Centre for assistance.
Students affiliated with both the University of Gothenburg and Chalmers
Students in mathematics, physics, and computer science need, in addition to obtaining a GU card, also to activate a CID (Chalmers account) in order to gain the correct access to the facilities. Once your CID is activated, you normally receive access to the facilities within one to two hours, but at the start of the semester it may sometimes take until the next day before access works. Please follow all four steps below.
If you have completed all the steps but still cannot enter the facilities, visit the Chalmers Service Center for assistance.
- Activate your student account
- Register for the course(s) you are taking
- Obtain a GU card It serves as your access card to the facilities
- Activate your CID (Chalmers account)
Lecture Halls / Teaching
Each department at Campus Johanneberg has its main buildings where most teaching and activities take place. However, for many courses, lectures may also be held in other parts of the campus. For artistic activities, see the section “Rooms for Artistic Activities.”
Department of Computer Science and Engineering (CSE)
Common lecture halls in the EDIT building include EA, EC, and EE, but teaching also takes place in other locations around campus, such as Hörsalsvägen, Maskinhuset, GD-salen in the Physics Building, and the Chemistry Building.
