Book shortage following thefts at the Biomedical Library

The Biomedical Library provides course literature for the courses offered at the Faculty of Science and Technology. Unfortunately, several course books have gone missing/been stolen from the library recently, and it is no longer possible to replace them with new copies at the same rate as they disappear. Therefore, the number of available course books for certain courses will be more limited than usual.

In an effort to reduce the loss of course books, the library will take measures to address the problem. Examples include:

  • Increased presence of library staff in the library.
  • Enhanced theft prevention marking of course books.
  • Clearer labeling of the library’s books to make it easier to identify them if they appear for resale in the secondhand market.
  • Course books that repeatedly disappear will be placed at the information desk and will only be available for borrowing upon presentation of valid identification.

The Biomedical Library welcomes feedback and questions, should any arise. They hope the number of books disappearing will decrease so that it will gradually be possible to repurchase the missing books so that, in the future, the library can offer the same number of copies for loan as before.

The library also urges students to remain vigilant when purchasing used course literature and to be cautious about buying books that appear, based on their markings, to belong to the University Library. The thefts that have occurred during the autumn have been reported to the police, and any new thefts will also be reported. The Biomedical Library welcomes tips about any ongoing sales of books suspected to belong to the University Library.
