Interdisciplinarity and participating departments

In order for you to acquire a broad perspective and the tools needed to address complex global health challenges, the programme integrates theories and methods from four faculties and five departments:

• Institute of Medicine at Sahlgrenska Academy
• Department of Social Work at the Faculty of Social Science
• Department of Economics at the School of Business, Economics and Law
• Department of Literature, History of Ideas and Religion at the Faculty of Humanities
• School of Global Studies at the Faculty of Social Sciences

The programme is developed through a council and a collegium, where all participating departments and course coordinators are represented, together with the students.

How to apply for a study break

You are always welcome to discuss your plans with the study counsellor before you submit an application. The study counsellor can also establish an individual study plan for you and is bound by professional silence.

Study abroad – Exchange studies

The University of Gothenburg offers exchange opportunities through both university-wide agreements (IC) and faculty agreements (SA). As a student in the Global Health or Public Health programmes, you can apply for exchange studies, typically in semester 3. Most exchanges are course-based. In some cases, internships may be included – this will be clearly stated in the agreement.

University-wide agreements are managed by the International Centre (IC) and are open to all students.

• You are responsible for finding relevant courses
• Available opportunities and application instructions are published on the Student Portal.

Faculty agreements (SA – Sahlgrenska Academy) 

Faculty agreements are subject-specific, may have limited places,  and can include funding (e.g. Erasmus+ ICM). Detailed information about each agreement is available in Mobility Online (“Information about agreement”).
