Erasmus+
Erasmus+ gives you the opportunity to spend part of your bachelor, master or doctoral studies at one of the University of Gothenburg's partner universities in Europe, and to apply for a scholarship for a traineeship abroad.
Most subject-specific exchange opportunities offered in Europe are arranged within the framework of the Erasmus programme. Thus, those who are nominated for an exchange within Europe often receive an Erasmus grant for their exchange studies. This page contains information about the scholarship and applicable conditions/rules. Please contact you Faculty/Department for information about how to apply for an exchange opportunity in Europe and to find out which countries and universities are available to you.
Available Countries
Erasmus scholarships are available for the 27 EU Member States, the EFTA countries (Norway, Liechtenstein and Iceland) as well as Turkey, Croatia and Serbia.
Exchange Period
The exchange period is 2–12 months in duration for the traditional (long) exchange.
It is also possible to do shorter onsite mobilities for 5 to 30 days if combined with a virtual component (blended mobilities).
Erasmus scholarships can be awarded to the same person more than once, but the total scholarship period may not exceed 12 months per level (Bachelor’s, Master’s, doctoral/licentiate), counting both studies and traineeships.
Scholarship Amounts for Erasmus Studies
The scholarship amount varies by host country, since some countries are more expensive to live in than others. The countries are therefore separated into two groups according to estimated cost of living:
Group 1 – countries with high costs of living: EUR 560/month:
Denmark, Finland, Ireland, Iceland, Liechtenstein, Luxembourg, Norway and the United Kingdom.
Group 2 – countries with low-to-medium costs of living: EUR 510/month:
Austria, Belgium, Croatia, Czech Republic, Cyprus, France, Germany, Greece, Italy, the Netherlands, Portugal, Serbia, Slovenia, Spain, Turkey, Bulgaria, Estonia, Hungary, Latvia, Lithuania, Malta, Poland, Romania, Slovakia and Macedonia.
Grants for Blended Mobility (Short Mobility)
- Day 1-14: EUR 79
- Day 15-30: EUR 56
Students travelling on blended mobility can receive an extra 1-2 travel days (daily allowance) if required.
How Do I Apply?
If you have been nominated for exchange studies within the Erasmus programme, you do not need to submit a separate scholarship application. All nominated students receive an Erasmus scholarship and the central Erasmus coordinator sends information about the scholarship by email. Please note that this only applies to Erasmus scholarships for studies. If you are going on a placement in Europe and want a scholarship, you are required to submit an application for an Erasmus Traineeship.
ERASMUS+ Online Language Support
Outgoing Erasmus students are given the opportunity to evaluate and develop their language skills through web-based tests and courses. The students test themselves in the language that will mainly be used for studies or training. The online test assesses the language skills - listening, reading and writing - in accordance with the Common European Framework of Reference for Languages (CEFR).
More information about the language support offered by the European Commission.
Learning Agreement
Before you leave, you must complete a Learning Agreement (LA) that shows which courses you will take at the host institution. Complete your LA with your Erasmus coordinator/equivalent at your Faculty/Department and remember that it needs to be signed by you, your international coordinator at the University of Gothenburg and the host university prior to the exchange period. Please contact the international coordinator/study counsellor at your Faculty/Department if you have questions about the Learning Agreement or the courses you are going to take at the host institution.
Certificate of Attendance
A Certificate of attendance is a document that certifies the date you began and completed your studies at the host university. It must be signed by the coordinator at the host university before you return home and sent back to the coordinator at your Department/Faculty at the University of Gothenburg. You get the certificate from your international coordinator at the University of Gothenburg.
Erasmus Student Charter
Erasmusstudents have both rights and obligations which are describes in the following document
Exchange Report
All Erasmus students must complete a Student Report form. It is sent out automatically via the Erasmus online system upon completion of the exchange, and not by the University of Gothenburg.
Contact Persons
Your Faculty’s/Department’s international coordinator who nominated you for the Erasmus exchange is your primary contact person during the visit abroad. If you have questions related to your exchange, for example about courses, the application and credits upon return, the possibilities of extending the visit, your well-being or insurance issues, please contact the coordinator at your Department and/or Faculty.
