Sustainable development during the studies

As a student, you can get involved in the University's sustainability work in several ways. You can be part of the internal sustainability audit, contribute with student perspectives in a committee or board at your faculty or join a student-led sustainability organisation. You can also participate in a number of activities such as the annual Act Sustainable-week and our thesis award for sustainable development.

Research, education and collaboration for sustainable development is a vital part of the University of Gothenburg's vision. Read more about the University's sustainability work at www.gu.se.

Student influence

Student Hub for Sustainability

The Student Sustainability Hub is located at the Gothenburg Centre for Sustainable Development, GMV. The Student Hub gathers, coordinates and supports student-led initiatives within sustainable development at both the University of Gothenburg and Chalmers University of Technology. Among other things, the hub provides cross-disciplinary platforms and activities where students can meet, exchange knowledge and learn more about sustainable development. Activities are hosted by, for and with students from all disciplines.

Some of the Student Hub activities:

Act Sustainable
Act Sustainable is the joint sustainability week at the University of Gothenburg and Chalmers University of Technology. The week takes place every fall and is open to all students and staff. The week aims to increase the knowledge about sustainable development among students and staff, and to inspire its participants to act for sustainable development, in the professional life, future professional life and in their private life.

GUSTA - GU Sustainability Thesis Award recognizes outstanding student theses within sustainability. The award aims to motivate students to, in a critical way, work with sustainability issues and to gain more knowledge about a more sustainable future. All students on bachelor and masters (including magister) level are eligible for the award.

Student Sustainability Coordinators
To increase the student perspective in the university's sustainability work there are students employed as part of the environmental management system team. These student employees have over the years worked with tasks related to sustainability labelling of courses and programs, the university's travelling policy, environment audit and the sustainability week Act Sustainable. The concept is inspired by the international Green Office model where students become an active part in the sustainability work by being employed by the university.

Network for involved students
GMV coordinates and supports an informal network for students who are part of student-led sustainability organisations, projects and groups. The network meets once a month and discusses collaboration projects and exchange knowledge. GMV also supports individual organisations and projects with issues related to organisational development, communication and administration. GMV can also support you if you want to launch your own organisation or project.

Learn more about the groups and organisations who are part of the network on GMV:s website.
