The process for applying for union status is now underway

Published

This fall, the University Board will decide which student associations will be granted student union status from 1 July 2025. 28 October 2024 is the last day to apply for student union status ahead of the Board's decision.

Since 2010, there have been four student unions at the University of Gothenburg, and they are the student associations that have had the status of student union since then. The main task of a student union is to monitor and to contribute to the development of education and the situation of students at the University, including by appointing student representatives. In other words, the student unions work to make sure that students' voices are heard by the University and to make your time at the University as good as possible.

The latest decision on student union status was made in the fall of 2021 and is valid until 30 June 2025. The University Board plans to decide which student associations will receive student union status for the next three-year period at its meeting on 4 December 2024.

The deadline for applications is October 28, 2024. The process for applying for student union status is governed by the Higher Education Act, and in order to apply for student union status, the requirements set out in the Higher Education Act must be met. Only associations of students at the University of Gothenburg can apply for student union status at the University.
