Summer School for Sustainability

Welcome to the University of Gothenburg's international summer school! Together with 150 students from all over the world you will have the chance to learn more about issues relating to Agenda 2030 and the Sustainable Development Goals.

This page is designed for students enrolled in the 2024 Summer School for Sustainability, scheduled between June 27th and August 2nd.
Being the main platform for the summer program, this page gathers all the essential information in one place, with details regarding courses, accommodation, arrival, and extracurricular activities both prior to and throughout the duration of the summer school.

Courses

All courses will take place at Pedagogen, house B, located on Läroverksgatan 15, in the heart of Gothenburg. This central location offers easy access to the city's cultural attractions, libraries, and public transportation, 
Do not forget to carry your GU-card with you to get access to Pedagogen!  

 

Please make sure to activate your student account to get access to your course's Canvas page. Visit Service Center Haga on Sprängkullsgatan 19, open on weekdays between 10am - 2pm.

Extracurricular activities

The summer school is a fantastic opportunity to meet people from all over the world. Alongside your courses, you are offered an extensive programme with guest lectures, interdisciplinary seminars, site visits, and practical workshops. Our social programme will include a welcome and farewell ceremony as well as day trips and social activities, allowing you to experience Swedish culture and sustainability initiatives.

Farewell Ceremony @Vasaparken

The Farewell Ceremony will be held on August 2, from 10.00-12.00. Join us at the main university building on Universitetsplatsen 1 as we bid farewell to you and hand out diplomas. Don't miss this opportunity to reminisce with friends and mentors over Swedish fika!

Housing

Accommodation is only provided to students nominated by our partner universities, and fee-paying students. Rooms at Olofshöjd are partly furnished. When missing items, you can visit Freeshop at Motgången 311, a community-driven initiative where you can find essentials like bedding, kitchenware, clothes, and much more at no cost. You can also leave there items you do not what to bring with you once the summer school is over. Språkskrapan has its own Freeshop you can access with your key.

Construction work at Olofshöjd

SGS will continue the renovation of the arcades at Framgången. The work will start on June 3rd and will continue until September, with a break from July 13th to August 5th. Work will take place on weekdays from 7 AM to 4 PM, resulting in disruptive noise, especially during the first month, and limited accessibility.

SGS ask for your understanding and cooperation in this matter.

Bikes can be parked in the racks at Framgången 208 or Tillgången.

Student Life

All courses will take place at Pedagogen, house B, located on Läroverksgatan 15, in the heart of Gothenburg. The closest bus/tram stop is Grönsakstorget

You need your GU-card to access the building on weekdays, betweek 7.30am and 5pm.

Please make sure to check the Summer School notice board to find the latest information on extra-curricular activities.  

There is a fridge and freezer in the student lounge, where you are welcome to leave your lunchbox. Please note that we will empty the fridge at the end of each week, unless you mark your lunchbox. There are none plates nor cutlery, so make sure to bring your own.

You will also find a boiler with a selection of teas, and a coffee machine with coffee. Do not remember to bring your own mug (or the blue refoldable cup, kåsa, you received upon arrival).

Mecenat card for student discounts

Make sure to download the app on Mecenat i App Store (apple.com) or Mecenat – Appar på Google Play and sign in with your ID number and the customer number received from Mecenat by e-mail.

Did not get the e-mail from Mecenat? Pass by the Summer School Team Office at Pedagogen and ask Anna for help.

Mecenat offers a variety of discounts, including discounts on train and bus tickets and free access to museums.

You are always welcome to reach out to the Summer School Team during office hours (Monday-Friday, 9am-4pm). Our office is located on the bottom floor at Pedagogen and is open 9am-3pm unless we are on a study visit or excursion.

Emergency number in Sweden
